The Voyage Birth Team

Suzi & Olivia work as a doula team and care for all clients together.

Suzi Livingstone

birth & postpartum doula & prenatal educator

Suzi was born at Lions Gate Hospital and grew up in North Vancouver. She had never thought much about birth until everyone around her started getting pregnant, and a dear friend invited her to be present at their birth. That day changed everything for Suzi, introducing her to what a beautiful, peaceful, transformative experience birth could be.

With a background in International Development and a love of living internationally, in 2013 Suzi moved with her young family to Cambodia. After two wonderful births of her own, she knew that she wanted to work with other people experiencing pregnancy and birth. After reading everything she could about birth, her dream of working with families came true. Her work started in Phnom Penh, where she provided emotional and education support to expecting families and attended several births.

Having returned to North Vancouver in 2018, Suzi completed the Wise Women Way of Birth doula training. This experience gave Suzi more tools, a great community of birth workers, and a renewed passion for seeing everyone in our city have access to compassionate, informed, holistic support during pregnancy, birth, and the transition into parenthood.

Since then, Suzi has been working locally as both a birth and postpartum doula, supporting over a hundred families across the Lower Mainland.

Suzi is pleased to offer services in both English and French.

Olivia van Bommel

birth & postpartum doula

Olivia first realized her passion for birth work through having her own daughter. She approached birth with a lot of fear but found herself amazed and deeply changed by the experience. Ever since then, she’s been curious about people’s stories of giving birth and transitioning to parenthood and wondered how those who had negative experiences could have been better supported. Connecting with another doula inspired Olivia to take the next step to complete Doula Canada’s labour, birth, and postpartum training and to begin to channel her natural ability to create safe space and provide calming emotional support into birth work.

Olivia brings a background as an educator and loves to dive deep with families in the prenatal period to help them feel prepared and hopeful for the transformative experience ahead. She has a passion for supporting birthing people and their partners in discovering the unique strengths that they bring to birth and parenthood. Olivia’s approach is warm, gentle and empowering.

Having grown up in the Greater Vancouver area, Olivia is excited to be based on the North Shore after spending a few years in Halifax, Nova Scotia where her doula journey began. She is now mother to two amazing little girls who make her days much louder and more fun than ever before.
